, Nose cone of styropor
[30. August 2005 um 10:29]
Hi
Would have liked to make my nose cones with a bottle, heat gun and a wooden model but I don’t have access to a lathe, so have to try making them of styropor. Does anyone have experience in making nose cones of styropor, styrodur, styrofoam etc. If so I would be happy if the would post tips and tricks on how to make styropor nose cones with for example the use of a drilling machine, and how it is best painted and treaded afterwards. With kind regard Rasmus Denmark |

Hi Rasmus,
the materials as shown in the threads are not styropor. It is Styrodur, more stably as styropor and better to work on. If you can't get the (green colored) Styrodur, have a look for the (violet colored) Stuff called Jacko-dur. You don't have to use a lathe. These nosecones can be made with a drilling machine or when you skilled without a machine too. Greets Tom |

Hi Rasmus!
Do you want to make the models out of styropor to shrink the PET bottles over it? I don´t think the styropor withstand the forces of a shrinking bottle! Greetings Robert |

Hi
No, Won't use the styropor as a model for shrinking bottles. What to use the styropor nose cone itself to put on the rocket. I think if I coat it with epoxy or something it will both enhance strength and lower the drag. With kind regards Rasmus Denmark |

Zitat: Hi Rasmus, Styrodur is a registered trade mark von BASF - Germany. And a view on the BASF Website shows: Styrodur® C (XPS) I guess that your XPS is the same like the Styrodur oder Jacko-dur. But i found no distributor on their website http://www.styrodur.de in Denmark, only Norway and Sweden http://www2.basf.de/basf2/html/plastics/englisch/pages/schaum/styrodur_vertrieb.htm Greets Tom |
